Day 34

Boydtown to Canberra 275 km

Left Boydtown about 8am in attempt to climb Browns Mountain and ride across the exposed high plains to Cooma before the wind started again. After refuling for the last time in Eden we had an uneventful ride to Cooma where we stopped for a coffee and a catch up with Darren, a guy Neil worked with nearly 40 years ago. Darren mentioned the Cooma cenataph and a memorial there to a pilot from WW2.

The cenataph and grounds were well maintained and the memorial for FLTLT Hughes is a wonderful diorama. It is great to see how the community, RSL sub-branch and local Legacy teams have worked together to create and maintain the cenataph and other memorials at this site.

After departing Cooma the wind was starting to. We were grateful that it was not raining and were pleased we only had 100km to go to finish our epic ride.

We finished at the Australian War Memorial 28 riding days, 34 days in total, after departing the same spot. One of the security guards came to ask us to move on, however upon hearing what we’d done was very happy to take our photos (then we moved on).

We live only a couple of km appart so we rode most of the way from the War Memorial together before going our separate ways. After nearly 17,000km of riding together it was a bit strange riding alone.
