Day 14

Warmun to Broome 830km

After a comfortable night in an ensuite motel room at Warmun Roadhouse, we were set for a big day on the bikes. We left at 0730h and rode to Halls Creek for fuel. 95 octane fuel was available, so Dave filled his bike.

Rode onto Ngumban Cliffs rest area for a quick break. Several caravanners had spoken about the site, so we thought we’d have a look. There are several covered seating areas, raised wood BBQs, toilets, and an EV charging station. The EV station has 108 solar panels and a backup diesel generator to keep the site batteries charged and ready for use. This site was very windy but a good spot for a short break.

We rode onto Fitzroy Crossing for fuel. There was no E10, 95, or 98 octane available, so Dave topped up with 91. The fuel bowsers and station are completely covered in wire mesh, so they may have some vandalism issues. The new bridge at Fitzroy Crossing is quite a site. Roadworks are still being performed in the area.

We rode onto Willare Bridge for fuel, 91 octane was again the only option. Next stop was Broome. It was a very welcome site to arrive after such a long day.

The scenery today continues to impress with multiple variations in landscape and flora. We wanted to stop multiple times to take photos of the boab trees but couldn’t find a safe spot to pull over. In between fuel stops, we’d take a 5 minute break to stretch our legs and drink some water. At one of the stops, we saw a massive boab tree, so we had to take a photo.
