Katherine – Darwin – Katherine 670 km
We departed RAAF Tindal at 0730h for the blast up to Darwin and back. The reason for the quick visit to Darwin was to ensure we complete the plan to take a photo in the main street of every capital city in Australia. Dave is also very keen on Laksa, so he had one at Chok’s Place in the CBD. According to Dave, it was great.
On the way up to Darwin, we stopped at the Adelaide River War Cemetery. Reading the grave stones, we saw the tragedy of war. There were so many young people whose lives were cut short by the violence of war. The cemetery is beautifully maintained and must have the cleanest public toilets we’ve ever seen. We think a visit to the Adelaide River War Cemetery is a ‘must do’ on everyone’s bucket list.
While the road is good in most places, the temperature (35 deg C) made the ride tough. We stopped twice on the 330km return journey just for water and a rest in the shade. While riding a motorcycle when the temperature is -3 deg (as it was this morning at our homes) has its challenges, riding a motorcycle with all the safety gear in the heat was very uncomfortable.
