Mount Isa to Renner Springs 797 km
After a very comfortable night at Peter and Jenny’s, Peter and his two dogs escorted Dave and Neil out of Mount Isa.
They rode onto Camooweal for a fuel top-up and checked out some of the artwork.
Not long after leaving Camooweal, they crossed into the Northern Territory. Throughout the route, Dave and Neil have been listening to audio books by using the shared music function on their headsets. For today, they listened to ‘The Cattle King’, which is the story of Sidney Kidman. They selected this book as Sidney Kidman owned multiple cattle stations in country similar to what they were riding through.
Once in the Northern Territory the speed limit increases to 130km/h, Dave and Neil opened the throttles however soon realised the increased fuel usage meant Neil would not make it the 240km to Barkly Homestead. Therefore, they slowed to a touch over 110km/h and comfortably made the distance.
After lunch at Barkly Homestead and a fuel stop at Three Ways, they arrived at Renner Springs and checked into the roadhouse motel. Accommodation is ok, their food and beer are great. Met Wendy and Bill, who are also riding their motorbikes around Australia, albeit at a much more leisurely pace than us. This ride is their dream and their joint birthday present.
Wendy and Bill decided to pack their camping gear up and let Australia Post carry it back to their house on the Sunshile Coast of Queensland. Dave and Neil are still carrying their camping gear but hope to never use it.
Roadworks on a few occasions between Camooweal and Barkly Homestead and several times between the Homestead and Three Ways.
