Day 4

Carrara to Rockhampton 709 Km

We departed Carrara 0530h to avoid traffic on the Gold Coast Highway. This plan mostly worked, but it looked like lots of people on the Gold Coast had the same idea. We’re pleased we didn’t experience this road during peak periods.

We rode into the city to take our Queen Street photo. We needed to leave our helmets on because we found only a bus stop to pull into and take our photo. Departing the city was a challenge. We became separated and ended up going different directions. We managed to coordinate our actions and rejoined for the journey about 20 minutes later.

Curra was a first fuel stop for the day. We caught up with our Scootaville friend Ros for a quick chat and exchange of parcels.

The next stop was Miriam Vale. Here, we met three New Zealand couples completing a self-guided motorcycle tour from Brisbane to Port Douglas and return. They were having a great time exploring the Australian North East coastal region. Two of the couples started in Brisbane, rode to Sydney to collect the third couple, turned around, and returned to Brisbane to start their journey.
