Day 2

Sydney to Coffs Harbour 533 Km

Much warmer today however the wind at times was very blustery which made it tough riding in parts.

We started the ride with a 30km trip into the Rocks for our Sydney photo. There were several thousand people there to see us off, or to participate in a 10km fun run, not sure what their reason was but we hope they had a good time.

We departed the Rocks to commence the ride to Coffs Harbour. Our first stop was 105km, and 75 minutes later, at the Northbound Wyong M1 service centre. Getting out of the centre of Sydney and up to Wyong in such a short time was a surprise, maybe the toll bill will also be a surprise. UPDATE: The tolls for this trip cost $39.65 for each bike.

After a coffee and short break, we were back on the M1. We were last on the road at Christmas 2023 and noticed the progress to bypass the Hexham bridge, not sure when these works will be completed however we are assuming it is still a few years away. We rode to Coolongalook for reasonably priced fuel and lunch. This leg was a bit tough due to the wind gusts. We caught up with another rider who is planning an epic motorcycling adventure of their own in Nepal.

From Coolongalook we continued along the M1 for another 177km to a very neat and tidy rest area at Cybucca. We met a couple from Canberra who had made and were delivering a commemorative fishing rod to the family of a young man who tragically passed away recently. This couple let us know that it snowed on the Monaro Highway overnight. It is a good thing we left on Saturday, or we may have had to cut the leg to Bega from our plans.

We left Cybucca for the 80km ride to Coffs Harbour. After unpacking the bikes, we headed to The Coffs Hotel for a cold beverage and a great lamb roast dinner.
